PALM BEACH, FL — Golf course manager Donald Trump got an entire Cornish game hen lodged in his throat during lunch on Wednesday, cutting off his air supply and depriving his body and brain of oxygen for several minutes.
Quick-thinking staff performed the Heimlich maneuver at once. However, the roasted bird would not come loose and Trump was rushed to Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center for emergency care before his breathing had resumed.
Mr. Trump, who served as president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, reportedly eats Cornish game hen at least three times a week for lunch. Sources close to him say he does not usually attempt to swallow it whole.
Cornish game hens are a special variety of chicken and considered somewhat of a delicacy. Trump is known to eat two to three in a single meal.
Doctors at Palm Beach Gardens said that once the bird is removed from Trump’s throat and his breathing restored, he is expected to make a full recovery.
